Earlier this week it was announced that #19 Alvaro Bautista will be Jorge Lorenzo’s replacement at the upcoming Australia Grand Prix as factory rider Lorenzo is still out from injury.
Currently racing his way through his last season in MotoGP on the Ducati satellite team Angel Nieto, Bautista will be joining WorldSBK with Ducati in 2019.
So why are we so excited to see Bautista race this weekend on the factory team?
- It is Bautista’s last season and after an incredible finish at the Japan Grand Prix we expect great things as he collaborates with the factory Ducati team.
- He holds a competitive historical combined index which reflects a high level of sector consistency and speed on the Philip Island Circuit. His index of 14.8017 is right up there with our chosen MVP riders this week, specifically Iannone and Vinales.
- Bautista is a very well-rounded rider meaning that he has excelled over the years in BOTH consistency and speed which believe it or not, can be difficult for riders to achieve. Particularly in sectors 3 and 4 where he holds one of the more competitive combined indexes out of all the riders.
We wish both Bautista and the Ducati team good luck at the 3rd to last Grand Prix of the 2018 MotoGP season!
