Moving up from the satellite team to the factory team, Danilo Petrucci joins Andrea Dovizoso on Ducati for the upcoming MotoGP season. After a competitive 2018 season, Petrucci placed 8th in the World Championship and had one finish on the podium. Competing in the series since 2012, we expect to see significant steps taken by Petrucci as he teams up with the Ducati Factory team.
Below we have provided graphs tracking both his average speed index as well as his average consistency index over time. These graphs represent an annual average with all races combined for the past 5 years. If you are unfamiliar with our indexes, a rider’s speed index is calculated from sector times for every circuit of every race. A rider’s consistency index quantifies their ability to keep consistency sector times on a lap by lap basis. For both indexes, a smaller value = faster sector times with little variation (high consistency).
Danilo Petrucci raced with the MotoGP ART team in 2014 and has been with Ducati from 2015 – present.
What do we hope to see from Danilo Petrucci as he enters his 8th season in MotoGP? First off, we hope to see him continue his fast rate of improvement in regards to consistency where he ranks 4th out of the top riders. A team switch may pose challenges for the new Ducati factory team rider but strong index projection rates place this seasoned rider in a promising position with significant improvement before reaching the “fine tuning” stages of his career. Second off, we hope to see Petrucci ease into the season to find a mutual understanding with his new bike before testing the limits with all the power Ducati offers. All eyes ahead as Danilo Petrucci races on with a well deserved factory team position.
